Welcome to the Humane Society of Jackson County's Raise the Woof Project!
Jackson County is one of the only counties in our region that does not have an animal shelter and an animal shelter is a community resource that our County desperately needs. The Humane Society of Jackson County is going to fix this problem with the help of our local businesses and involved citizens.
History of the Humane Society of Jackson County
Established in 1998 by Marjorie Butler - a life long resident of Jackson County and true visionary. Ms. Butler recognized the need for an animal shelter in our growing county and the importance of a low cost spay neuter program. With a small group of volunteers, Ms. Butler began raising money with the ultimate goal of building an animal shelter.
Since 1998, the Humane Society has grown into a vital organization in Jackson County. Programs have been established to provide subsidized spays and neuters for low income residents, pet food assistance for those struggling to feed their pets, and rescuing many homeless animals through foster homes, courtesy placement, and the lost and found network. Details of these programs are available on the website, www.hsjc.com .
The Shelter Project received its first grant from the Pedigree Foundation! Click here to see a copy of the press release.
